We Are So Beautiful It Hurts: Make Love To Your Lips
We first learn how physically beautiful we are (or not) from our parents. As they lovingly gaze into our child’s eyes and whisper sweet things into our ears, we not only neurologically bind to them but we are programmed to believe in our inherent worthiness and attractiveness. If we haven’t been lucky enough to have parents that caressed, hugged and kissed us, or if perhaps we were clearly dismissed and rejected by them, our sense of inner and outer beauty will be deeply compromised. We may grow up to see ourselves as unattractive and ugly and suffer all the more because we tell ourselves, “how could anyone desire me and love me?”
The good news is that we can change these untrue beliefs we have about ourselves and replace them with loving and more self-supporting beliefs.
For some of us, looking ourselves in a mirror or heaven forbid, in pictures taken by other people, can be a very painful experience. In order to start the journey back into falling in love with ourselves, we can start by making friends with parts of our face instead of the whole.
MAKE LOVE TO YOUR LIPS:
Today we can start the journey to becoming friends and even lovers (!) of our face by choosing to focus on our lips. Let’s start by gazing at them in soft light and tracing their shape with our fingers and accepting their uniqueness like a fingerprint. Let’s mindfully focus on the up and down of their curves and wonder in awe all the kind, funny and loving things we have ever said to anyone. The coos to babies, friendly words to strangers and sexy phrases to lovers. We can use all the wonderful tools we have to gently scrub them, wax or deplane the area around and explore their cushiness and tautness. Let’s look at the little wrinkles around that only tells us that we are very much alive and kicking! How lucky we are that we can experience more of being human!
Let’s use the magic of makeup to be playful with our lips and dress them with glosses and mattes, bold lips and nude shades. What do our lips say to the world and what secrets do they keep! Make this whole month, the month for loving your lips. Pay attention how they rest, how they smile, what beautiful things can they say to comfort, to make people laugh, to impart wisdom and with a little gesture, to show compassion. Who can they kiss, as well as stimulate in all sorts of ways?:) Your lips can be gorgeous and luscious, the source of all pleasure and tenderness. Lead with your lips and give the world the gift of their beauty.
